Marriage Should Be A Choice — Building a New Website on Forced Marriage

The right to choose whether, when, and who to marry is one we may take for granted, although forced marriage exists in our own backyards. This new project on Catapult will help us build a website for women and girls in the United States fleeing forced marriage.

Reaching Our Communities

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Making Headlines: Tahirih in the News

Morgan Weibel

  • Al Jazeera America published a four-part series highlighting forced marriage in the United States and featured Tahirih’s Forced Marriage Initiative.
  • The Washington Post drew attention to the plight of immigrant women who experience roadblocks to protection from domestic violence after a Congressional briefing Tahirih co-convened in November.
  • Baltimore's WBAL-TV 11 invited Tahirih Supervising Attorney Morgan Weibel to discuss the reality of human trafficking in Baltimore on 11 TV-Hill.

The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, non-profit organization that protects courageous immigrant women and girls who refuse to be victims of violence. We elevate their voices in communities, courts, and Congress to create a world where women and girls enjoy equality and live in safety and with dignity.
